چکیده

In this report, we discuss the alternating Schwarz method as the classical domain decomposition method for solving partial differential equations, which we then use to couple particle and continuum models.

Application of Nano-Contact Mechanics Models in Manipulation of Biological Nano-Particle: FE Simulation

Contact mechanics is related to the deformation study of solids that meet each other at one or more points. The physical and mathematical formulation of the problem is established upon the mechanics of materials and continuum mechanics and focuses on computations involving bodies with different characteristics in static or dynamic contact. Contact mechanics gives essential information for the s...

Coupling Methods for Multiscale Simulations and Adaptive Modeling Uncertainty Quantification in Atomistic-to-Continuum Methods for Complex Molecular Systems

In this talk, we will present our recent progress on the development of multiscale approaches for coupling concurrent models used to describe phenomena spanning different spatial scales. The main approach is based on the Arlequin framework in which a reference particle model, supposedly intractable, is replaced by a coupled model that blends solutions from small and large scale models [1,2]: mo...

Numerical Investigation of the Impact of Inlet Channel Numbers on the Flow Pattern, Performance, and Erosion of Gas-particle Cyclone

The effect of adding extra inlet channels on the operation of the Stairmand Cyclone has been investigated numerically. The Reynolds stress model (RSM) and Eulerian-Lagrangian method were used to investigate the complex turbulent flow and cyclone performance. The impacts of one-way coupling and two-way coupling models on the cyclone efficiency and the calculation of cut-off size diameter were ex...

Speeding up intrinsically slow collective processes in particle simulations by concurrent coupling to a continuum description.

The difficulty to study intrinsically slow collective processes by computer simulation of particle models stems from multiple disparate time scales (e.g., stiff bonded interactions versus soft nonbonded interactions). Continuum models, which describe the system by collective variables rather than the coordinates of the individual molecular constituents, often do not suffer from this time-scale ...

Fluctuations and continuity in particle-continuum hybrid simulations of unsteady flows based on flux-exchange

– This letter describes the treatment of unsteady liquid flow by a hybrid particlecontinuum scheme. The scheme couples a particle region described by molecular dynamics with a coarse-grained domain solved by continuum fluid dynamics. The particle and continuum domains overlap in the coupling region, where two-way transfer of momentum flux is established. We demonstrate that this flux-coupling s...
